In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing the design process from bid through to delivery, ensuring outcomes that are buildable, cost effective, and aligned with client expectations.
A multi award winning, national building contractor with an impressive history of success is seeking an experienced Design Manager with a strong background in both site construction delivery and pre-construction / tendering. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing the design process from bid through to delivery, ensuring outcomes that are buildable, cost effective, and aligned with client expectations.
Reporting to the Head of Design, you will work alongside a well-established team of Design Managers, partnering closely with pre-construction and delivery teams to drive design excellence across projects.
Key Requirements:
- Strategic, agile thinker who can add value across all design phases including pre-construction, (tendering), early contractor involvement and live projects.
- Solid knowledge across disciplines, (structural, services, finishes) with a focus on buildability, detailing and value engineering.
- Practical mindset with strong critical thinking skills in tendering, planning, value engineering, and innovative design.
- Proven experience in a Design Management role within a building contractor environment
- Excellent stakeholder (internal and external) management with the ability to lead productive client / design meeting.
- Aptitude to manage and align design with construction program and budgets.
- Experienced in reviewing workshop drawings to point out key / high risk items and be a willing participant on-site when needed.
Key Experience:
- Broad sector experience, particularly in new-build construction.
- Holds relevant qualifications, ideally tertiary level education in Construction Management, Engineering or Architecture.
- Preference for past on-site experience.
- Efficient time management, a practical mindset, clear communication
- Proficiency in CAD, Bluebeam, MS Project, and BIM
- Known for a genuine commitment to adding value within fast paced dynamic, and diverse team environments.
